TEHRAN -- Iran is showcasing traditional handicrafts, including Gilan’s distinctive Rashti-doozi embroidery, at a specialized exhibition being held in New Delhi on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit.
The handicrafts exhibition, which opened Sept. 8 and runs through Sept. 15, brings together representatives of BRICS member countries at the House of Handicrafts and Textiles in the Indian capital, according to Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts news service.
Iran is participating with two representatives from the country’s handicrafts community, presenting examples of traditional Iranian craftsmanship to visitors and delegates attending the international gathering.
Among them is Ameneh Sedighi Chafjiri, a veteran Rashti-doozi artist from Gilan province, who is displaying works rooted in the textile traditions of northern Iran.
Rashti-doozi is a traditional form of embroidery associated with Gilan, incorporating distinctive motifs and techniques shaped by the region’s cultural heritage and environment. Its presentation in New Delhi offers an international audience an opportunity to see one of Iran’s regional textile traditions alongside handicrafts from other BRICS countries.
