U.S. Sanctions 36 Entities Linked to Iran’s Aviation Sector

TEHRAN – The U.S. Treasury Department has announced new sanctions against Iran, with the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) adding one individual and 35 companies and entities to its sanctions list over their alleged links to Iran.
The newly released list includes 27 Iranian passenger airlines, among them Mahan Air, Air Shiraz, Aseman Airlines and ATA Airlines.
The Treasury Department said the measures are aimed at restricting support for Iran’s aviation sector. The U.S. Treasury secretary also warned companies that continue doing business with other Iranian airlines that they could face the risk of being cut off from the international financial system.
The sanctions come as the targeted airlines operate in the civilian aviation sector. Mahan Air, which has previously been targeted by U.S. sanctions on several occasions, is also included in the latest list announced by the Treasury Department.
