TEHRAN – Iran has broken its wheat production record, reaching 14.1 million tons for the first time in history.
Iran’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Majid Anjafi, announced on Sunday that wheat production has reached 14.1 million tons.
He added that currently, 85% of the country’s food needs are produced domestically, with only 15% reliant on imports.
Anjafi noted that despite last year’s drought, erratic rainfall, sanctions, and economic hardships, total crop and horticultural production increased by 7 million tons through the synergy of farmers, researchers, and experts.
He added that authorities plan to focus on sustainable production in rain-fed (dryland) areas and aim to boost oilseed production to 600,000 tons, while securing stable budgets to further enhance productivity and food security.
