Pourrahnama Clinches Gold at World Para Taekwondo Grand Prix

TEHRAN - Iranian para taekwondo athletes on Friday won one gold and two bronze medals in the men’s category 2026 Para-taekwondo Grand in the city of Mojo, South Korea.
The second stage of the competitions, Iranian athletes won one gold medal and two bronze medals.
In the men’s -80 kg weight class, Mehdi Pourrahnama defeated Nurlan Dombayev of Kazakhstan with a 2-0 score and won the gold medal of the competition.
In the same weight class, Alireza Bakht, after a break in the first round, defeated Zhanbulat Kaziev of Kazakhstan with a 2-0 score in the next round and reached the semifinals. Bakht faced Pourrahnama in this round and won the bronze medal after losing to his teammate.
In the -70 kg weight class, Amir Muhammad Haghighatshenas lost to Bosolo of Italy with a 2-0 score and won the bronze medal.
A total of 367 athletes competing at the World Para Taekwondo Grand Prix and the second World Taekwondo Grand Prix Series event of 2026 from September 4-7.
It has brought together 119 Para Taekwondo athletes from 27 countries, followed by 248 Kyorugi athletes from 46 nations, as well as the Taekwondo Refugee Team.
Muju represents the second stop of the 2026 Grand Prix season after the opening event held in Rome in June.
The World Para Taekwondo Grand Prix will feature competition across all 10 K44 weight categories, with five men’s and five women’s divisions.
Nine of the 10 gold medallists from the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games are included in the field.
The competition coincides with the annual celebration of Taekwondo Day on September 4, adding further significance to the opening of the program.
The first round of the 2026 Para Taekwondo Grand Prix was also held on June 14 in Rome, Italy.
