TEHRAN -- Iran is building what officials describe as West Asia’s largest endowed orphanage complex in Sadra City, Fars Province, with more than 42,000 square meters of built space and a projected cost of 4.5 trillion tomans.
The Haj Khalil Zali orphanage complex will accommodate between 600 and 900 children without parental care and provide residential, educational, medical and sports facilities, Seyyed Abbas Mousavi, director-general of the Fars Province Endowments and Charities Organization, said Saturday.
The second phase of the project is scheduled to begin shortly and is expected to be completed within four years. The complex comprises 14 blocks, including six residential buildings covering 15,500 square meters for boys and girls of different ages.
A 6,000-square-meter educational building will provide vocational training in computer skills, artificial intelligence, welding and carpentry for boys, and computer skills, artificial intelligence, sewing and embroidery for girls.
The planned medical building, covering 2,770 square meters, will include a 50-bed emergency department, laboratory, blood bank and pharmacy. A 3,000-square-meter sports complex will contain sports halls, football, volleyball and tennis facilities, a swimming pool and sauna.
