TEHRAN - Iran’s Saghar 
Moradi won the women’s under-67-kilogram title at the Taiyuan 2026 World Taekwondo Women’s Open Championship on Sunday, completing a dominant run without dropping a single round.
The Iranian defeated Styliani Marentaki of Greece in two straight rounds in the final to claim the gold medal in Taiyuan, China.
Moradi’s title came after six consecutive victories. She won every bout 2-0 and did not concede a round throughout the tournament.
The competition was held in Taiyuan from Aug. 28-30 as part of the World Taekwondo international calendar.
Moradi began her campaign with a 2-0 victory over Russia’s Darya Mesli. She followed that with another straight-round win over China’s Jiang Jianni, the runner-up from the previous edition and a silver medalist at the 2025 Bangkok Grand Prix.
The Iranian then defeated Chloe Chua of the United States 2-0 in the round of 16. She maintained her momentum in the quarterfinals, beating Croatia’s Doris Pole 2-0 to secure at least a bronze medal and advance to the last four.
The semifinal presented a tougher test. Moradi faced Aleksandra Perisic of Serbia, a Paris 2024 Olympic silver medalist and a world and European medalist.
Moradi again prevailed in two straight rounds to book her place in the final.
She completed the job against Greece’s Marentaki, winning both rounds to become the under-67kg champion.
Iran had another podium finish in Taiyuan. Hana Zarrin Kamar won silver in the women’s over-73kg division earlier in the tournament.
In the -57kg category, Kiani—a World champion and Olympic silver medalist—was eliminated in her opening match after losing 2-0 in straight rounds to Makayla Greenwood of the United States.
Hasti Muhammadi, Iran’s other representative in the -57kg division, defeated her first opponent from Comoros before losing in straight rounds to China’s Zhang in her second match, ending her campaign at the tournament.
The Iranian women’s team therefore finished the competition with one gold and one silver medal across five weight categories.
