BEIRUT (Dispatches) -- Israeli forces carried out a “massive explosion” in the southern Lebanese town of Houla on Sunday, just one day after demolishing an elderly care home in the same area.
The bombing in Houla, located in the Marjeyoun district, was described by Lebanon’s National News Agency as a “massive explosion.” 
The attack followed Saturday’s demolition of a residential care home for the elderly in the same town — a facility housing some of Lebanon’s most vulnerable citizens. 
Israeli forces also destroyed buildings between the towns of Markaba and Rab El Thalathine in the district.
In the southern Nabatieh district, an Israeli drone struck an open area between Jarmaq and Kfar Remman, while artillery fire targeted the outskirts of Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh. Israeli artillery also shelled areas between Haddatha and Haris.
On Thursday, a Lebanese woman was killed and six others wounded — including a child, a woman, and two elderly people — in Israeli strikes on the town of Arab Salim in the Nabatieh district. 
According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Health, the woman who died “had been married for 48 hours.” Her house was destroyed in the attack.
Lebanese security sources said at least 10 Israeli strikes were carried out in the wider Nabatieh area.  
Despite Israel’s relentless attacks, the United States has intensified its demands that Hezbollah disarm. 
A U.S. State Department spokesperson said Saturday that “Hezbollah must disarm” for Lebanon to become a “safe and sovereign country,” emphasizing that the Lebanese government is the “sole legitimate interlocutor” for discussions on the country’s future.
The Lebanese government and Israel reached a U.S.-mediated framework agreement on June 26 that provides for a gradual Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territory in exchange for the deployment of the Lebanese army and the disarmament of Hezbollah.
However, critics say the agreement has become a tool to pressure Lebanon while Israel faces no consequences for its continued violations. 
Israeli forces remain on Lebanese territory, conducting daily strikes that have killed more than 4,300 people since March, according to Lebanese authorities. The U.S. has failed to condemn Israeli attacks on civilian infrastructure, including the deliberate demolition of an elderly care home.
As Israeli forces continue to advance into southern Lebanon, killing civilians and destroying homes, Washington’s “peace” agreement appears designed to weaken Lebanon while shielding Israel from accountability. 
Lebanese civilians — including newlyweds, the elderly, and children — continue to pay the price for a “peace” that has brought them only more suffering.
