KABUL (Dispatches) -- The Taliban-led administration in Afghanistan said on Friday its forces have full control over the country’s borders and that no threat to other nations emanates from Afghan soil, responding to a regional security bloc’s plans to strengthen the Tajikistan border.
The statement from Zabihullah Mujahid, chief spokesman for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, came after the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) said it would deliver new equipment to reinforce the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border this autumn.
“We assure everyone that there is no cause for concern regarding Afghanistan’s borders,” Mujahid was quoted as saying by local media. 
“We also have full coordination with Tajikistan along the border. Afghan security forces and Tajik border guards coordinate with each other and do not allow any unauthorized activity.”
CSTO Secretary-General Talatbek Masadykov said on Wednesday that a list of needed weapons and equipment had been finalized, with first shipments expected in Tajikistan in the coming months. 
He described securing the Tajik-Afghan border as a vital concern not only for Tajikistan but for all CSTO member states, calling it “our southernmost line of defense”.
Mujahid suggested that intelligence agencies in countries hostile to Afghanistan may be providing the CSTO with false information to create tensions between Afghanistan and its neighbors. 
He invited concerned countries and organizations to share their security concerns directly with Afghan authorities. 
The CSTO has identified the Tajik-Afghan border as one of the most sensitive security areas in Central Asia amid concerns over militant activity and drug trafficking. 
Russia’s Permanent Representative to the CSTO said the organization continuously monitors the situation in Afghanistan through various mechanisms and maintains cooperation in combating terrorism, extremism, and drug trafficking.
The border has witnessed recurring security incidents in recent months. Tajik media reported that seven armed clashes took place along the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border in the first half of 2026, resulting in 17 Afghan nationals killed, with Tajik forces seizing 1,513 kilograms of narcotics during that period. 
In a separate incident earlier this month, two Afghan nationals were killed in an armed clash with Tajik border guards after crossing into Tajikistan with cannabis.
The Islamic Emirate has repeatedly said it will not allow Afghan territory to be used for attacks against other countries, a pledge central to its efforts to gain international recognition since taking power in August 2021. 
Mujahid has also claimed that Daesh has been completely eliminated in Afghanistan, with its centers and bases dismantled.
