DUBAI (Dispatches) -- Emirati writer Abdul Ghaffar Hussein has warned that economic and trade sanctions against Iran by its southern Persian Gulf neighbors would cause major losses for both sides.
“Economic and trade sanctions against Iran by its southern Persian Gulf neighbors would cause great harm to both sides, and those calling for such action are unaware of the extent of these losses and their consequences,” Hussein wrote on his account on X.
His remarks came days after the United Arab Emirates announced the suspension of all activities, trade exchanges and financial dealings with Iran until further notice.
Hussein’s warning follows a sharp message from Iran to its neighbors over any participation in Washington’s economic campaign. Major General Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said Tehran would initially negotiate with neighboring countries to prevent them from joining the campaign, but warned that those proceeding with it would be treated as enemies.
“We tell all neighboring countries not to participate in the economic war with the Americans; otherwise, we will consider them enemies,” Rezaei said.
“First, we negotiate with them so that they do not do this, and if they continue, we will target that country,” he added.
Rezaei also warned that Iran could prevent oil from leaving the Persian Gulf if regional states joined the economic campaign, saying, “we will not allow a single drop of oil to pass through the Persian Gulf,” while also warning of possible action against other routes through which Persian Gulf oil is exported.
The warning came as Tehran faces
 renewed U.S. economic terrorism. Rezaei said the United States had turned increasingly toward economic pressure after becoming “completely disappointed” with military attacks.
Hussein has previously published similar messages concerning relations with Iran. In May, he called for an accommodation with Tehran, stressing that the economic and commercial interests between the two sides made maintaining calm in the region beneficial.
The Emirati writer also pointed to Iran’s geographical position, noting that Iran shares much of the Persian Gulf coastline with the countries of the region.
