‘Make America Hungry Again’: Ghalibaf Hits Back at Trump
TEHRAN — Iranian Parliament Speaker Muhammad Bagher Ghalibaf on Monday mocked U.S. President Donald Trump’s election slogan, saying 47 million Americans are facing hunger and food insecurity and that the figures are not fabricated like Trump’s claims.
Trump on Monday republished an edited and fabricated version of Ghalibaf’s remarks on his platform, according to Iran’s IRNA news agency.
In response to what he described as a psychological operation, Ghalibaf turned Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan against him, writing: “Make America Hungry Again.”
Ghalibaf also published an image citing statistics from official international institutions and credible U.S. organizations, highlighting what he described as the real crisis facing American society.
According to the figures cited by Ghalibaf, 47 million people across the United States are affected by hunger and food insecurity, while one in every eight Americans goes to bed at night without enough food.
The figures also state that 16 million American children are victims of poverty and a livelihood crisis, with hunger affecting communities across the United States.
Addressing Trump directly, Ghalibaf said the figures were not fabricated like the U.S. president’s claims and that Trump could not “cover up defeats with false claims.”
Ghalibaf’s response came after Trump shared what Iranian officials described as a distorted version of the parliament speaker’s remarks, prompting Ghalibaf to highlight poverty and food insecurity in the United States.
