Mehdi Taremi Joins UAE Side Al-Wasl After Olympiakos Season
TEHRAN - Al Wasl Club of the UAE announced on Saturday the signing of Iranian striker Mehdi Taremi from Olympiacos of Greece, marking the start of a new experience for the player in Arab stadiums.
Al Wasl did not disclose the financial details of the deal or the duration of the contract, while Taremi will wear the number 9 jersey with the Emirati team.
This is the Iranian striker’s second Arab experience, after he previously played for Al-Gharafa of Qatar for two seasons, during which he scored 22 goals in 43 matches.
Taremi began his professional career in Europe with Rio Ave of Portugal in the 2019-2020 season, before moving to Porto after one season, then he had an experience with Inter Milan in the 2024-2025 season, and then moved to Olympiacos of Greece.
During his club career, Taremi played 486 matches and managed to score 221 goals, and he won 12 titles, the last of which was the Greek Super Cup with Olympiacos last season.
On the international level, the Iranian striker participated with his national team in the 2026 World Cup.
Taremi’s joining Al Wasl comes amid the Emirati team’s strong start to the season, having won their first two matches and topped the UAE league standings.
Al Wasl is preparing to compete in the AFC Champions League, after finishing last season in third place in the UAE league, and will begin its continental campaign against Saudi Arabia’s Al Qadisiyah on September 14.
