TEHRAN -- Iran’s junior Greco-Roman wrestling team finished runner-up at the 2026 U20 World Championships in Bratislava, Slovakia, collecting one gold and four bronze medals for 109 points.
The championships were held in Bratislava from Aug. 16 to 23, with the Greco-Roman competition taking place from Aug. 16 to 19.
Armin Shamsipour won Iran’s only gold medal, taking first place in the 55kg category. Shamsipour defeated Georgia’s Giorgi Karomidze 12-2 in the final to claim the title.
Iran also won four bronze medals, with Amirali Heydari taking bronze at 60kg, Ali Gharibie at 63kg, Amirmehdi Saeidi-Nava at 77kg and Amirhussein Nematzadeh at 87kg.
Russia topped the team standings with 142 points, while Iran finished second with 109, followed by Uzbekistan with 95, Armenia with 91 and Azerbaijan with 90.
