DOHA (Dispatches) — Iran opened its campaign at the 2026 FIVB Boys’ U17 World Championship with a straight-sets victory over Algeria on Wednesday, winning 25-15, 25-19, 25-14 in Doha.
Iran controlled the match from the outset, with captain and opposite hitter Sina Hazrati leading the team with 16 points. Azhvan Namazi added 10 points, while Amirreza Faramarzidarghelou contributed 11 points, including five aces.
The tournament, featuring 20 teams, is being held in Doha, Qatar. Iran’s victory came in Pool E, where the team made a strong start to its campaign.
Iran will next face Pakistan on Friday in its second preliminary-round match.
In another opening-day result, Poland defeated Argentina 3-0, winning 25-20, 26-24 and 25-19.
