Ministry Declares Two French Diplomats Undesirable, Bans Entry
TEHRAN — Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Tuesday declared two French diplomats working at the French Embassy in Tehran “undesirable” and barred them from entering the country, citing alleged violations of international law and the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
In a statement, the ministry’s public relations office said the two officials had engaged in conduct that Iran considered contrary to international law. The ministry said several weeks had passed since the alleged conduct was exposed, but that France had taken no action to correct the behavior or provide assurances that similar incidents would not be repeated. “Based on this, the Foreign Ministry recognizes these two officials as undesirable elements,” the statement said, adding that their entry into Iran would consequently be prohibited.
