TEHRAN – Iranian Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati and Iraq’s Trade Minister Mustafa Nizar al-Ani discuss ways to facilitate economic relations and remove obstacles to trade between the two neighboring countries.
Hemmati, who traveled to Iraq on Sunday, met with al-Ani on the first day of his visit to discuss measures to strengthen bilateral trade, investment and monetary cooperation.
During the meeting, the two sides highlighted the broad potential for expanding economic ties and discussed implementing previous agreements and increasing banking interactions between Iran and Iraq.
Hemmati stressed the active role of private-sector businesses in facilitating the export and import of goods.
He also emphasized the need to establish new mechanisms to accelerate trade procedures, particularly at border entry points.
Meanwhile, Iraq’s trade minister welcomed the expansion of bilateral cooperation and stressed the Iraqi government’s determination to address challenges facing economic operators and strengthen trade ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The visit follows Hemmati’s participation in the BRICS meeting in India, where he met with his Indian counterpart, Sanjay Malhotra, to discuss ways to strengthen monetary and banking cooperation between Iran and India.
During an address to the first meeting of the BRICS Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors, Hemmati called for the establishment of a dedicated BRICS financial corridor and the integration of national payment networks among member countries.
