Movahed ended his career in the competition by placing in joint ninth to twelfth place.
In the decisive stage to advance to the top eight, Movahed faced America’s Hans Niemann and lost 1.5-1.5, failing to advance to the next stage.
This young Iranian chess player received a cash prize of $55,000 for being among the top 12 in the competition.
The 2026 Esports World Cup was held with the participation of a number of the world’s top chess players in Paris, France, and the total prizes for the chess section of the competition are $1,500,000.
The Esports World Cup is the world’s largest multi-discipline esports tournament, where the best teams and players from various disciplines compete for millions of dollars in prizes and championship titles.
