TEHRAN – The Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) said on Monday that at least 555 civilians have been martyred in attacks carried out by the United States and Israel across Iran since the aggression began, as rescue and relief operations continued nationwide.
In a statement, the IRCS said more than 100,000 volunteers and aid workers are currently engaged in rescue missions and relief services in affected areas. 
It added that a nationwide network of nearly four million volunteers is prepared to carry out humanitarian operations and provide psychological and social support to those impacted by the attacks.
According to the statement, 131 cities across the country have been struck since the aggression began on Saturday, underscoring the wide geographical spread of the attacks and the scale of damage to civilian infrastructure.
More than ten medical centers, including hospitals and emergency stations, have been attacked across Iran over the past three days, the head of the country’s Medical Council said on Monday.
Muhammad Raeiszadeh told reporters that the facilities targeted included emergency centers, aid stations and hospitals. He cited the overnight strike on Tehran’s Gandhi Hospital, which he said caused serious damage to infrastructure and medical equipment, including imaging devices.
“We have no expectation that these individuals will observe the red lines of the healthcare sector,” Raeiszadeh said, referring to the perpetrators of the attacks. 
Raeiszadeh said patients from the affected facilities had been transferred to other medical centers. He also reported that embryos being stored for infertile families at the Gandhi Hospital had been stabilized and placed in special tanks, with no problems arising.
“Unfortunately, the Zionist regime and its supporters showed in Gaza that they do not adhere to any humanitarian or international rules,” he said. “We no longer have expectations from international institutions.”
Fatemeh Muhammad-Beigi, a member of the Health and Treatment Commission of the Iranian parliament, said a number of medical centers have been evacuated due to the possibility of further attacks.
She said the illegal aggression has resulted not only in the destruction of hospital buildings and medical facilities, but also in the injury of students and local residents. 
She added that rescuers from the Red Crescent Society of the Islamic Republic of Iran, along with emergency medical services personnel, are active in all provinces.
World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a post on X that reports of damage to Tehran’s Gandhi Hospital are “extremely worrying.” 
He said the WHO is working to verify the incident and stressed that all efforts must be made to prevent health facilities from being caught up in the ongoing conflict.
“Health facilities are protected under international humanitarian law. Health is #NotATarget,” Tedros said.
The humanitarian toll has also extended heavily into the education sector. An Iranian education ministry official said on Monday that at least 171 innocent students have been identified as martyred over the past 48 hours terrorist attacks by Israel and the United States on Iran.
Hussein Sadeghi, head of the information and public relations center at Iran’s Ministry of Education, said that 168 children were martyred in a brutal Israeli attack on the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ primary school in the city of Minab. He added that 95 other students were wounded in the same attack.
Sadeghi said that two student brothers living in the Valfajr residential complex in Tehran’s District 14 were also martyred overnight after a strike on a residential home. In another incident, he said an explosion caused by the impact of a bomb or missile in the city of Abyek, in Qazvin province, resulted in the martyrdom of a boy aged about nine.
Two other students were wounded in Tehran’s Narmak area, while another student was injured in District 4 of the capital. All were transferred to hospital for treatment, Sadeghi said.
