Leader Donates 50bn Rials to Support Release of Indebted Prisoners

TEHRAN — Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei donated 50 billion rials (approximately $40,000) to support the release of financially struggling prisoners in Iran.
The contribution was made ahead of the 39th annual Golrizan ceremony, a charitable initiative dedicated to helping inmates jailed for unpaid debts and other financial liabilities.
The Golrizan event, held every year during the holy month of Ramadan, is organized by the National Organization for the Support of Prisoners (Setad Deyeh) and attracts government officials, philanthropists, and members of the public across Tehran and other cities.
The initiative raises funds to secure the release of inmates in need, reflecting ongoing humanitarian efforts linked to Ramadan.
This month, Ayatollah Khamenei approved the pardon, reduction, or commutation of sentences for more than 2,000 convicts earlier this month, following a request from Judiciary Chief Gholamhussein Mohseni-Ejei.
According to official reports, clemency was granted to 2,108 individuals convicted by general and revolutionary courts, the Armed Forces Judicial Organization, and government penal institutions.
The request for clemency was submitted in a letter to Ayatollah Khamenei on the occasion of the Shabaniyeh religious holidays and the 47th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution.
Such measures are traditionally announced during major religious and national occasions, when the judiciary seeks the Leader’s approval for pardons or sentence reductions for eligible inmates under Iranian law.
