Veteran Palestinian Journalist Detained Again After Prisoner Exchange
RAMALLAH (Dispatches) -- Palestinian journalist and human rights defender Bushra al-Taweel was re-arrested last Friday near Ramallah, 15 years after her first detention. Transferred first to al-Maskubiya interrogation center and then to a women’s prison, her arrest comes a year after her January 2025 release in a prisoner exchange.
Al-Taweel, a graduate of Modern College’s Journalism and Photography program, has spent over five years in Israeli prisons, campaigning for detainees’ rights through the Anin al-Qaid Network. Her father, Jamal al-Taweel, a Hamas figure, was also re-arrested months earlier after a prior exchange release.
