Women Volleyballers Fall Short Against Azerbaijan
TEHRAN – Iran’s women’s volleyball team lost to the Azerbaijan Republic in straight sets (25-11, 25-16, 26-24) in its opening match of the 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games on Tuesday.
The match was held at the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Olympic Complex in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.
Iran will play Turkey on Thursday.
The 6th Islamic Solidarity Games, known as Riyadh 2025, are an upcoming inter-continental multi-sport event organized by the Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA), and will be held from November 7 to 21, 2025 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
On Monday, Iran’s women U-16 volleyball team lost to Japan 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-13) in the 2nd AVC Asian Women’s U-16 Volleyball Championship.
Iran, who had lost to the Philippines 3-0 earlier, will meet India and Australia on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively in Pool H.
The tournament serves as a qualification tournament for the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U-17 World Championship.
The top four teams and defending champion China will qualify for the 2026 U-17 World Championship as the AVC representatives.
