Afghanistan Eyes Extension of Khaf-Herat Railroad to Mazar-i-Sharif
TEHRAN – The governor of Afghanistan’s western province of Herat called for Iran’s cooperation to extend the Khaf-Herat railroad up to Mazar-i-Sharif, saying the project will further enhance regional connectivity and economic exchanges between the two neighbors.
Noor Ahmad Islamjar had a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi in Herat.
Stressing the need for continued collaboration to complete the rail link from Herat to Mazar-i-Sharif, the Taliban official said the project would help enhance economic cooperation.
For his part, Gharibabadi referred to the relations based on neighborhood, brotherhood, friendship, and shared religious and cultural values between Iran and Afghanistan, emphasizing the need to further expand bilateral cooperation and resolve existing issues between the two countries.
He hailed his fruitful and constructive meetings in Kabul, saying the neighborhood policy holds a special place in both countries.
Gharibabadi also highlighted the importance of utilizing provincial capacities on both sides of the border to develop relations in various fields, particularly trade and economic cooperation.
