Lebanon Complains to UN Over Relentless Israeli Airstrikes

BEIRUT (Dispatches) – Lebanon has lodged a formal complaint with the United Nations Security Council following Israeli airstrikes on civilian economic infrastructure in southern Lebanon over the weekend, the Lebanese Foreign Ministry said Monday.
The complaint, filed through Lebanon’s UN mission, details Israeli air raids targeting heavy machinery showrooms along the Al-Msayleh-Zahrani road in the Sidon district.
Lebanese officials said the strikes caused civilian casualties and extensive damage to commercial facilities, destroying over 300 vehicles and causing millions of dollars in losses across six equipment yards, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency.
Foreign Minister Youssef Raggi instructed Lebanon’s permanent UN mission in New York to circulate the complaint as an official document to all Security Council members, seeking to increase international pressure on Israel and hold it accountable for violating Lebanese sovereignty.
The airstrikes mark a significant violation of the November 2024 ceasefire that ended a year of fighting between Hezbollah and Israeli forces, which resulted in more than 4,000 deaths and about 17,000 injuries.
The ceasefire required Israel to withdraw fully from southern Lebanon by January, but Israeli forces remain at five border outposts, maintaining tensions in the region.
