Iran Returns to Top of Weightlifting World

TEHRAN – Iran’s men’s weightlifting team claimed the team title at the 2025 IWF World Championships in Forde, Norway, marking the country’s first world team victory since 2017.
Led by head coach Behdad Salimi, the Iranian squad topped the standings with 388 points, securing one gold, four silver, and one bronze medal. North Korea and the United States finished second and third respectively.
Ali Davoudi earned a bronze in the snatch in the super-heavyweight category, while teammate Ayat Sharifi withdrew due to injury. The standout performer for Iran was Alireza Moeini, who won gold in the snatch and silver in the total in the 94kg category. Moeini also competed in the 110kg class, where he added two more silver medals in the clean and jerk and total.
Other Iranian medalists included Ali Alipour, who claimed silver in the snatch (94kg), and Alireza Nasiri, who secured silver in the clean and jerk and total in the 110kg division.
The full Iranian lineup in Forde included Abdullah Beiranvand, Ilya Salehipour, Alireza Moeini, Ali Alipour, Abolfazl Zare, Alireza Nasiri, Ayat Sharifi, and Ali Davoudi.
Iran’s only previous team world title came at the 2017 World Championships in Anaheim, United States, under then-head coach Mohsen Beiranvand. That team
