Iran Urges Muslim Nations to Unite Against Israel’s ‘Looming Hegemony’
TEHRAN — Iran on Wednesday condemned Israeli airstrikes on Qatari territory and urged Muslim nations to unite in confronting Israel’s “looming hegemony.”
President Masoud Pezeshkian issued a scathing statement following the strikes, denouncing them as a criminal act carried out under “the questionable silence of the international community.”
He said the airstrikes violated both international law and human principles and threatened the region’s peace and stability.
“The Zionist regime sets no limits on crime and terror and destroys any attempts at diplomacy,” he stated, pledging Iran’s solidarity with the Qatari government and the Palestinian people.
Pezeshkian called for an immediate and decisive response from the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and other international bodies, emphasizing that sustainable peace in the region is only possible by ending occupation and aggression.
Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, emphasized the broader regional implications of the strike. Writing in Arabic on X, Larijani said the attack carried a stark message: “The Zionist entity’s latest crime message in Qatar: O countries of the region! Prepare yourselves for my looming hegemony!!”
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi added his condemnation, calling the strike an “illegal attack” against Qatar.
He said Israel had “heinously done what Iran would never contemplate: attacking the dear people and government of Qatar,” and extended condolences to those injured.
Araghchi reiterated Iran’s commitment to unity among Muslim nations in confronting such aggression, asserting that Iran stood ready to deepen regional cooperation to counter threats to international peace and security.
The Israeli airstrikes were reportedly aimed at Hamas officials in Doha’s diplomatic district. The assault martyred several lower-level resistance members and civilians, although the group’s senior negotiators survived. Hamas described the attack as a “heinous crime” and a violation of international law.
Qatar’s Foreign Ministry denounced the strikes as a “cowardly Israeli attack,” calling them a violation of international law and a threat to its national security.
The airstrikes and ensuing international outcry have elevated concerns about escalating tensions in the region.
