Larijani: U.S. Proposes Impossible Demands to  Sabotage Talks

TEHRAN -- Ali Larijani,
Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, on Tuesday reaffirmed Iran’s willingness to engage in meaningful negotiations as he sharply criticized repeated U.S. failure to show genuine commitment to dialogue.
In a statement posted on his official X account, Larijani emphasized that “the path to negotiation with the U.S. is not closed,” countering U.S. claims that Iran refuses to negotiate.
He said American officials are merely “talking about negotiation but never coming to the table,” highlighting Tehran’s pursuit of “wise and realistic” talks.
Larijani exposed the U.S. strategy of imposing impossible demands—such as restrictions on Iran’s missile program—that deliberately sabotage any chance of progress. “They propose conditions they know cannot be fulfilled, effectively blocking negotiations,” he said.
His remarks came following a lengthy meeting with media leaders, where he stressed the importance of national unity and the Iranian people’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding their sovereignty.
“No patriotic Iranian would ever willingly surrender their defensive capabilities to the enemy,” Larijani stated firmly, underscoring Iran’s right to self-defense.
Highlighting the U.S.’s disruptive role, Larijani noted that war erupted even while Iran was pursuing negotiations in good faith.
“The war began at a time when we were still negotiating,” he said, pointing to Washington’s aggressive policies that undermine diplomatic efforts.
He also assured that critical issues such as nuclear negotiations and the controversial snapback sanctions are being thoroughly reviewed by Iranian experts, countering any notion that these matters are handled lightly or without due diligence.
Iran’s stance contrasts sharply with the U.S.’s pattern of imposing unfair demands and unilateral withdrawals from agreements, including the 2015 nuclear deal, which have only escalated tensions in the region.
