Israel Drops Threatening Leaflets Over Southern Lebanon
BEIRUT (Dispatches) -- Israel escalated its aggressive campaign in southern Lebanon, dropping leaflets over the village of Rab Thalathin on Tuesday that warned residents against cooperating with Hezbollah.
The leaflets claimed that working with Hezbollah “will not bring any economic benefit” and accused the resistance group of obstructing rebuilding efforts — a clear attempt to undermine Hezbollah’s role as the key defender of Lebanese sovereignty and resistance against Israeli occupation.
This psychological warfare followed Israeli shelling on Monday, which targeted two engineering vehicles engaged in reconstructing Hezbollah’s infrastructure in the areas of Yaron and Rab Thalathin.
Israeli military spokesman Avichai Adraee justified the attacks by accusing Hezbollah of violating ceasefire understandings between Lebanon and Israel.
Yet these “understandings” have been repeatedly violated by Israel, which continues to maintain illegal military posts in southern Lebanon despite the ceasefire agreement brokered by the U.S. and France on November 27, 2024.
Only last week, Israeli airstrikes bombed Hezbollah facilities in the towns of Qal’at al-Shuqif and Aita al-Shaab, including underground infrastructure vital for the resistance.
The Israeli military confirmed hitting a building in Aita al-Shaab used by Hezbollah, previously the home of a party member killed in an Israeli strike while repairing resistance infrastructure.
Despite the ceasefire agreement intended to end cross-border clashes, Israel persists with unprovoked attacks on Hezbollah positions, refusing to withdraw from key strategic sites captured during recent confrontations along the Lebanese-Israeli border. This ongoing aggression underlines Israel’s refusal to respect Lebanese sovereignty and its determination to destabilize the region.
The violence escalated further on Sunday when an Israeli drone strike killed Hezbollah member Ali Tawba in the Nabatieh al-Fawqa area.
Multiple airstrikes by drones and warplanes hit deep southern Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah’s military positions and forcing the closure of the international road linking the border to the Nabatieh region. The Lebanese army is currently working to reopen this vital route.
Hezbollah remains the most viable Lebanese force confronting Israeli occupation and aggression. Its resilience and commitment to defending Lebanon’s sovereignty stand in stark contrast to Israel’s continued violations and occupation attempts.
The resistance’s role is crucial in safeguarding Lebanon’s territorial integrity and deterring further Israeli incursions, which threaten broader regional stability.
Israel’s recent military moves, including establishing new posts along the border, highlight its ongoing aggression and disregard for international agreements.
The Lebanese people, supported by Hezbollah’s steadfast defense, continue to resist these incursions and strive for sovereignty free from occupation and external threats.
