President: Iran Ready to Mediate Between India, Pakistan
TEHRAN -- President Masoud Pezeshkian has expressed Iran’s readiness to broker lasting peace between Pakistan and India.
In a telephone conversation with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Pezeshkian said Iran’s principled policy focuses on promoting de-escalation and fostering peace globally, particularly within the Islamic world.
“The Islamic Republic welcomes any measures and efforts towards establishing lasting peace between Pakistan and India, and it can play a mediating role to that aim,” he added.
Accepting Sharif’s invitation to visit Pakistan, Pezeshkian said that he had ordered his administration to explore ways of bolstering Tehran-Islamabad relations.
The Pakistani prime minister, for his part, extended the Eid al-Adha greetings and conveyed best wishes to the Iranian nation and Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
He further recalled his recent visit to Tehran, where he held productive discussions on defense, security, economic, and other matters.
Sharif also expressed hope that bilateral agreements signed between Pakistan and Iran will be implemented.
Separately, Pezeshkian and Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa stressed the need for Muslim unity and cooperation among regional countries to thwart the divisive plots hatched by the enemies of Islam.
In a telephone conversation, they also emphasized the importance of leveraging the teachings and unity fostered by the Hajj pilgrimage to enhance solidarity, interaction, and brotherhood among the Islamic nations.
They further expressed wishes for health, security, welfare, and progress for the Iranian and Bahraini peoples, as well as for the entire Islamic Ummah.
Pezeshkian and Al Khalifa also underscored the necessity for the Muslim countries to uphold unity and collaborate in order to counter the malicious plots of the adversaries.
