Iran’s Qur’an Reciters Thrill Khoja Shias in Tanzania
TEHRAN -- A special Qur’anic gathering has been held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, bringing together members of the Khoja Shia community and renowned Iranian Qur’an reciters from the widely viewed television program Mahfel.
The event, organized at the main Khoja mosque and Imambargha, was held at the invitation of the Tabligh Committee of the Khoja Ithna-Asheri Jamaat of Dar es Salaam.
It drew a large audience of community members and Qur’an students from affiliated schools, according to Iran’s cultural attaché office in Tanzania.
The Qur’anic show Mahfel—broadcast in Iran during Ramadan—has gained significant popularity for featuring world-class reciters, engaging Qur’anic performances, and fostering a deep spiritual connection with viewers.
Among the participants was Hamed Shakernejad, a celebrated Iranian Qur’an reciter known for his emotionally resonant style and contributions to international Qur’anic events.
Also performing were prominent Iranian Qur’an experts Ahmad Abolghasemi, Masoumi, teenage reciter Muhammad Hussein Azimi, and young female memorizer Mehnaz Qanbari.
Kazim Dala, head of the Tabligh Committee, expressed his gratitude to the Mahfel team for accepting their invitation and praised the quality of the event.
Iran’s Cultural Counselor in Tanzania Mr. Maarefi described the gathering as a valuable opportunity for international Qur’anic figures and organizations to connect with the Khoja Shia community.
The program was a collaborative initiative involving the International Qur’an Foundation, the Mahfel TV production team, the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization’s International Quran and Propagation Center, and the local branch of Al-Mustafa International University in Tanzania.
