Flooding Claims Lives, Causes Severe Property Damage in Afghanistan

KABUL (Xinhua) – At least two people have been killed and three others injured after flash floods caused by heavy rains in northern Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province, a local official reported Sunday. Heavy rainfall triggered flash floods on the outskirts of the province’s Jorm district. Provincial director for the disaster management authority Mawlawi Mohammad Akram Akbari has confirmed that two local residents have died and three others were injured following the floods. According to the official, the natural disaster has washed away 279 acres of farmland, 3 km of rural roads, several residential houses, and water canals in the said district. Survey teams were dispatched to the Baharak, Wardoj and Yamgan districts of the province to assess the damage caused by the flash floods, Akbari explained.
