Ex-PM Barak: Netanyahu Waging War on Zionist Regime
WEST BANK (Dispatches) – Former prime minister of the Zionist regime Ehud Barak has accused the regime’s sitting premier Benjamin Netanyahu of declaring war on Israel, tampering with its capabilities and causing grave damage to its standing and image.
In an interview with Israeli radio, Barak said Netanyahu was evading the formation of an official commission of inquiry into the events of October 7, 2023.
“Israel is truly on the brink of collapse, and its ‘democracy’ and international standing are in danger, and Netanyahu is responsible,” he said, adding that the prime minister is trying to create a false image in the minds of people in the Israeli-occupied territories and the world that he is in complete coordination with U.S. President Donald Trump, but the truth is that Trump abandoned the idea of a ‘Riviera in Gaza’ a long time ago and is preoccupied with other issues.
Barak said Trump is preparing to visit the region, and his interests differ from Netanyahu’s, which was reflected in his recent statements.
In another sign of deepening chasm within the occupying regime, Netanyahu accused Ronen Bar, the head of the regime’s spy agency, Shin Bet, of lying to the regime’s top court late on Sunday, and of trying to evade responsibility for security failures that led to the October 7 operation on southern parts of the occupied territories.
In a 13-page court filing defending his March decision to remove Bar as Shin Bet chief, the prime minister sought to push back against stunning allegations that were made against the premier in a submission made to Israel’s supreme court last week.
Netanyahu accused Bar of lying about security warnings being presented to him ahead of the October 7 operation, as well as Bar’s testimony in Netanyahu’s long-running corruption trial and the Shin Bet’s response to protests against the premier.
“Bar’s blindness is the greatest intelligence failure in the history of Israel,” Netanyahu’s affidavit said.
The affidavit comes as part of a case launched by Israeli opposition parties and watchdogs against Netanyahu’s decision to oust Bar.
