Yemeni Army Shoots Down Second Advanced U.S. Drone in Week
SANAA (Dispatches) – The Yemeni army says it has shot down the second U.S. MQ-9 drone, only three days after downing the first one during the past week, as part of a campaign in support of the oppressed people of Palestine and retaliation for aerial aggression by the U.S.-led forces against the Arab country.
In a statement, the Yemeni Armed Forces said that their air defenses managed to shoot down an American MQ-9 Reaper, a hunter-killer drone designed for long-endurance and high-altitude surveillance, over the skies of Yemen’s western province of al-Hudaydah.
“In support of the oppressed Palestinian people and in backing their noble and valiant resistance, with the Help of Allah Almighty, the air defenses of the Yemeni Armed Forces have shot down a hostile American MQ-9 drone while it was violating Yemeni airspace and carrying out hostile missions over the airspace of al-Hudaydah Governorate using a locally manufactured surface-to-air missile,” said Brigadier General Yahya Saree, spokesperson for Yemen’s military, in a televised statement.
He added that this is the second such drone that Yemeni air defenses had downed “within 72 hours and the 17th throughout the Battle of the Promised Victory and the Sacred Jihad in support of Gaza,” that began shortly after October 7, 2023, when the Zionist regime launched its ongoing genocidal war against the besieged Gaza Strip.
The armed forces said on Monday that they shot down an American MQ-9 Reaper drone over the central province of Ma’rib.
Meanwhile, leader of Yemen’s Ansarullah Popular Resistance Movement Abdul-Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi said on Friday that the Zionist regime is dropping US-made bombs on Palestinians in Gaza Strip.
The occupying regime is not committed to any international regulations, he said, adding that the United States is responsible for Israeli crimes committed against Palestinians in the enclave.
Al-Houthi went on to say that Israel is seeking forced displacement of Palestinians and is blatantly violating Lebanon ceasefire.
Slamming Israeli attacks on Syria, the leader of Ansarullah Resistance Movement called on Muslims and Arab countries to take serious action against Israeli crimes.
He also urged mass worldwide protests against Israeli crimes against Palestinians.
Elsewhere in his remarks, al-Houthi urged for the worldwide economic, political bans on Israeli products.
In another development, the United States conducted more acts of aggression against Yemen by launching a new wave of airstrikes across multiple regions in the Arab country, targeting military sites and vital infrastructure.
Yemen’s official Saba news agency, citing a local source speaking on condition of anonymity, reported that airstrikes hit the al-Asayed area in the Kitaf wa al-Boqe’e district of the northwestern Sa’ada province early on Friday.
There were no immediate reports about possible casualties and the extent of damage caused.
The Kahlan area east of the provincial capital city of Sa’ada was also bombed, according to local sources. No casualties were quickly reported.
Yemenis have been hitting Israeli and American targets in support of Palestinians in Gaza since the regime launched its devastating war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, and in response to the American-British aggression on their homeland.
