IRGC Unveils Smart Missiles, Drones During Drill
TEHRAN -- The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) on Wednesday unveiled a series of domestically-developed smart missiles and combat drones during drills in the country’s southwestern province of Khuzestan.
Among them was BM-450 ballistic missile with a range of 200 kilometers, tested during the “Great Prophet-19” drill which is taking place in Shaveriyeh.
The Fat’h-360 short-range satellite-guided tactical ballistic missile, Fajr-5 (Dawn-5) 333 mm long-range multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) equipped with pinpoint accuracy systems, as well as guided types of 122 mm rockets were also tested.
Others were the Majid short-range air defense missile system, upgraded versions of Mohajer-6 (Immigrant-6) and Mohajer-10 unmanned aerial vehicles plus numerous indigenous kamikaze drones, capable of carrying payloads ranging between 50 and 60 kilograms.
The Hadid-110 kamikaze drone, which was showcased during an exhibition of the Iranian Defense Ministry’s capabilities visited by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei earlier this month, was tested as well.
The drill is the latest in a series Iran has conducted at a time of heightened tensions with the United States after President Donald Trump reintroduced his policy of maximum pressure — an intense campaign of sanctions meant to cripple the Iranian economy and force the country to bend on its nuclear energy program.
It aims to put into practice modern combat tactics and strategies, as well as the sophisticated homegrown military hardware newly delivered to IRGC divisions, and assess their efficiency in different real-world scenario.
Various IRGC ground force units carry out a series of offensive and defensive operations, practice electronic warfare tactics and undertake several relevant tasks, and mount large-scale armored, missile, drone, and artillery attacks within the next few days.
Just last Wednesday, Iran unveiled a new jet-powered suicide drone that can be launched from underwater, the Hadid-110, and late last month it conducted a series of naval exercises in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
