Prominent Mathematician Laid to Rest

TEHRAN – A funeral procession for 
Ebadollah Mahmoodian, a professor of math at the Sharif University of Technology, and a member of Iran’s scientific hall of fame, was held at the prestigious school here on Monday.
The procession took place outside the Faculty of Mathematical Sciences attended by the chancellor of the university as well as officials, professors, university students, and the late professor’s family. 
After the funeral, the body of the late professor was laid to rest in Tehran’s Behesht-e Zahra cemetery.
Born on May 19, 1943 in Zanjan, Professor Mahmoodian received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Tehran and his master’s degree from Shiraz University of Technology. 
He continued his master’s and PhD courses at the University of Pennsylvania. In 1983, he became a member of the faculty of Sharif University of Technology as a mathematics professor. 
For years, he taught and mentored some of the brightest talents, including late Iranian mathematician Maryam Mirzakhani who became the first woman to be awarded the Fields Medal, mathematics’ equivalent to the Nobel Prize.
