Gallan Visits Washington Despite ICC Arrest Warrant
WASHINGTON (Dispatches) -- Former Israeli war minister Yoav Gallant visited Washington DC Tuesday despite an ICC arrest warrant being issued against him.
Gallant was met by protesters who said “Nobody wants you here” and “You are a genocidal war criminal”.
The International Criminal Court (ICC)’s call for Gallant’s arrest is based on his involvement in multiple war crimes and crimes against humanity against Palestinians in Gaza, on which he imposed a complete siege banning the entry of food, water and medicines.
Adas Israel, Washington’s most prominent synagogue, abruptly canceled a Monday evening event with Gallant following objections from congregants.
In a related development, reporters mocked the hypocrisy of U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller during a press briefing, where he stated that the U.S. supports the ICC case against former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad but opposes cases against Israeli officials, including Israeli president Benjamin Netanyahu over the genocide which is leading in the besieged Gaza Strip.
