Sunni Basij Martyrs Laid to Rest in Southeast Iran
TEHRAN -- The bodies of the five Sunni Basij members recently martyred by terrorists were buried after a funeral was held in southeastern Iran on Tuesday.
They had been martyred in a terrorist attack in Sirkan district of the border region of Saravan near Pakistan on Sunday, according to a report by Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Force.
Following the attack, IRGC units stationed in the region were quickly dispatched to the area and began hunting down the terrorists.
The border region of Saravan has over the past years been the scene of clashes between Iranian security forces and terrorist groups and drug traffickers.
Back in May, five Iranian border guards were martyred in clashes with armed terrorists in the Maze-Sar area of Saravan.
Also in April, a senior Iranian police officer was martyred in a terrorist attack in the southeastern province after unidentified assailants launched a surprise attack.
