FM Araghchi Urges UK to Stop Zionist Regime

TEHRAN – Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has talked to his British counterpart David Lammy on the phone, telling him that the ongoing military and political support for the Israeli regime should be stopped.
Araghchi said Iran will not hesitate to exercise its inherent and legitimate right to defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity in accordance with the accepted principles of international law and the UN Charter.
He also emphasized the need for immediate action by the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to condemn Israel’s aggressive action, which he said is in continuation of the regime’s crimes in Gaza and Lebanon.
Araghchi called for urgent measures to hold the Israeli regime’s leaders accountable and to put an end to the genocide and killings in Gaza and Lebanon.
He said Iran’s response will fit within the accepted principles of the international law and the United Nations Charter.
Lammy said the situation in West Asia is combustible, stressing the need for self-restraint on the part of all concerned parties towards fulfillment of underway efforts at de-escalation of tensions and prevention of expansion of warfare and instability in the region.
On Sunday, the Iranian Embassy in the UK hit out at Britain’s stance on the Zionist regime’s aggression against Iran.
In a post on its X account, the embassy wrote, “To align Britain’s position regarding Israel’s attack on Iran with the United Nations Charter and international laws and norms, it would be as follows: The UK government strongly condemns this attack as a violation of Iran’s national sovereignty. The United Kingdom calls for a United Nations Security Council meeting to address and condemn this action.”
It said, “Iran has the right to respond to this violation, we urge Iran to prioritize efforts toward a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon and to focus on preventing the continuation of genocide by the Israeli regime in Gaza, as it has stated. The Israeli regime must be held accountable without delay”.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer was the first G7 leader to respond to the Israeli aggression, urging restraint from Iran without condemning the aggression of the Zionist regime.
