Iran’s Final Warning
TEHRAN -- President Masoud Pezeshkian warned on Tuesday that any Israeli aggression against the country will be met with a “proportional response.”
He made the remarks at the Hamas office here, where he paid tribute to Yahya Sinwar, leader of the Palestinian resistance group, who was martyred in combat with Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip last week.
Asked by reporters about a potential strike by the Zionist regime on Iran, he said, “Any attack will receive its own proportional response.”
While bogged down in the quagmire of wars, Israel has recently stepped up its threats against Iran amid reports that the occupying regime’s targets may be military, oil or nuclear sites in the Islamic Republic.
Pezeshkian said that certain powers preach about human rights while they are themselves violating international law and supporting the criminal entity that has displaced people from their homes.
The U.S. and European countries, which have armed Israel, defend every inhumane crime that the regime commits, he said, adding such countries have been pursuing the policy of “bullying” others, but freedom- and justice-seeking people will not remain silent.
“This is not a war that can be ended by killing people, but it is a war that can be ended by establishing justice and considering all people’s [rights], something that is not possible by force and injustice.”
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also warned the Zionist regime against making any miscalculation, saying Iran relies on domestically-developed military hardware as well as methods in order to protect its civilian nuclear installations.
“If our critical infrastructure is attacked, the Zionist enemy knows what we can do in response,” he said.
Iran, he said, has received guarantees from its neighbors that they will not allow “their soil and airspace” to be used for any attack against the country.
“All the neighbors assured us that they will not allow their soil and space to be used against Iran,” he told a press conference in Kuwait. “This is the expectation of all friendly and neighboring countries and we consider this a sign of friendship.”
Araghchi has said his tour is aimed at stopping Israeli attacks in Gaza and Lebanon. He has so far travelled to Bahrain, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iraq, Oman,
Jordan and Egypt. He visited Syria and Lebanon a week prior.
“We are closely monitoring the movements of American bases and we are watching all their movements and flights,” Araghchi said. The U.S. has military bases across the region, including in Kuwait, and is a staunch supporter of Israel.
“If Israel attacks in any form, Iran will respond in the same way,” he said, repeating earlier warnings. The minister also warned Israel against attacking its nuclear facilities, saying that such action would be considered “an international crime”.
Araghchi said countries in the region had informed Iran that their stance is against any attack on the country, regardless of their target.
The Iranian president on Tuesday arrived in Russia’s Kazan to attend the 16th annual summit of the BRICS group of countries.
Speaking in Tehran before his departure, he said Iran’s membership of the BRICS and its participation in the bloc’s summit provide a good opportunity for the country to strengthen its relationship with the world and end U.S. totalitarianism and unilateralism.
Pezeshkian also said Iran is set to reach “good agreements” in the field of energy, industry, trade and tourism during the summit.
