Two Gangs Affiliated to Terrorist Group Dismantled
TEHRAN -- Iranian intelligence forces have identified and arrested two teams associated with a notorious terrorist group trying to carry out terrorist and destabilizing activities in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan.
Iranian news outlets said Monday those arrested are affiliated with the so-called Jaish al-Adl group, referring to the location of the arrests as the province’s Rask and Sarbaz Counties.
The operation was launched following persistent surveillance and offensive efforts by the intelligence forces, supported by provincial law enforcement forces.
The terrorists sought to deploy firearms and explosives with the aim of carrying out acts of terror and sowing insecurity in the province.
Their arms caches were also discovered and confiscated in the operation.
In early October, the terror group martyred at least six people, including a local commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) and two police forces, during two separate terrorist attacks in Sistan and Baluchestan.
Later, Iranian security forces arrested two terrorists involved in the shooting attack that had claimed the lives of the security forces.
Sistan and Baluchestan, which borders Pakistan and Afghanistan, has long been the site of frequent clashes between Iranian security forces and takfiri terrorists as well as drug traffickers.
The so-called Jaish al-Adl, which is based in Pakistan, has claimed responsibility for several terror attacks targeting both civilians and security forces in recent years in the province.
