The Absurdity of Sanctions Against Iran

By: Kayhan International

The criminal regimes commit all sorts of terrorism around the world, are supplied the most lethal weapons to slaughter men, women, and children by the thousands, raze entire towns to rubble, but are never brought to justice, let alone sanctioned by the big powers.
Yet, the countries these major economic powers impose sanctions upon are the defenders of the oppressed, such as the Islamic Republic of Iran.
In fact, Iran is the target of more sanctions than any other country for no fault, except to speak for the rights of the deprived and to help them if possible.
In many cases, the Islamic Republic on baseless accusations and for not breaking any international law, is threatened with more sanctions.
The other day, three of Iran’s airlines were sanctioned by the European Union (EU) on the false claim of ferrying missiles to Russia.
Iran Air, Mahan Air, and Saha Air had not transported any missiles to Moscow or any other Russian city.
The Iranian foreign minister, Abbas Araqchi, refuted reports in this regard, yet the EU says it is contemplating more sanctions on Iran.
The European Union’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell says the proposals for imposing sanctions against the Islamic Republic are on the table.
Borrell made the remarks ahead of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg on Monday, saying: “I suppose they will be approved.”
This is the height of hypocrisy. Many EU member states, along with the US, have been pouring in the most lethal arms into Israel for more than year, despite the genocide in Gaza.
The EU has no concerns for the worst holocaust in history underway in Gaza, or for that matter the massacre of the people of Lebanon by the Zionist entity.
It also ignores the US supply of the most sophisticated weaponry to continue the NATO war in Ukraine, where the fatality and destruction of towns and cities is climbing over the past two years.
These double standards, or hypocrisy, however, will not deter Iran from its humanitarian goals in defending the oppressed, and safeguarding its own sovereignty and territorial integrity.
For the past 45 years, the Islamic Republic has shown that these sanctions of the West are a blessing in disguise and has used the opportunity to march towards the pinnacle of progress.
