Iranian Athletes Claim More Medals in Paris Olympics
Injured Yazdani Snatches Silver
TEHRAN – Iranian freestyle wrestler Hassan Yazdani lost to Bulgaria’s Magomed Ramazanov in the men’s 86kg freestyle wrestling final at the Paris Olympics.
The Rio 2016 Games champion and Tokyo 2020 silver medalist Yazdani suffered a shoulder injury during the match and lost 7-1.
On his way to the final, Yazdani defeated Jayden Lawrence of Australia 10-0 in his first match.
He then beat Greek wrestler Dauren Kurugliev 9-4 and later defeated San Marino’s Myles Amine 7-1 to book his place in the final.
Amir Hussein Zare Beats Turkish Wrestler
Freestyle wrestler Amir Hossein Zare of Iran secured his place in the final match of the 2024 Olympic Games on Friday.
He defeated Kyrgyzstan’s Aiaal Lazarev 5-0 in his first match in the 125kg weight class. Zare then beat Canadian Amar Dhesi 10-0 in the quarterfinals.
The Iranian wrestler beat Taha Akgül 2-1 in the semifinal. The Turkish wrestler had won a gold medal in the 2016 Olympics.
Zare won a bronze medal in the 2020 Olympic Games and is going to win a gold medal in Paris.

Defeats American Rival
Freestyle wrestler Rahman Amouzad on Saturday defeated his American opponent Zain Retherford in the category of 65 kg in the 2024 Olympic Games.
Earlier he won the Albanian wrestler 11-0 to advance to the next stage.
Taekwondo Athlete
Barkhordari Grabs Silver
Taekwondo athlete Mehran Barkhordari claimed a silver medal in the 2024 Olympic Games Friday night.
Barkhordari lost to Firas Katoussi from Tunisia in the men’s -80kg final.
Italy’s Simone Alessio and Denmark’s Edi Hrnic won the bronze medals.
Iranian female taekwondo athletes Nahid Kiani in the -57kg and Mobina Nematzadeh in the -49kg had earlier won a silver and a bronze medal, respectively.
