Iranian Athletes Bag More Medals at World Para Games

TEHRAN – Iranian Athletes have bagged two golds and one silver medals and a bronze medal in the 2024 World Para Athletics Championships underway in Japan.
Javelin thrower Saeid Afrooz finished first and bagged a gold medal by throwing 40.18 meters at F34 - men’s Javelin throw at the World Para Athletics Championships.
Previously in the tournament, other Iranian Javelin throwers Alireza Mokhtari had grabbed bronze.
Amirhossein Alipour also won a gold medal at the event.
Alipour seized the gold medal with a throw of 14.61 meters in the Men’s Shot Put F11 Final. He also broke the championship record and secured a spot at the 2024 Paralympic Games.
Neutral Paralympic Athlete Igor Baskakov claimed the silver medal with 13.62 meters and the bronze medal went to Iran’s Mahdi Olad, who threw 13.28 meters.
Hashemiyeh Motaghian won a silver medal at the Women’s Javelin Throw F56 Final.
She came second with a throw of 22.74 meters. The gold medal went to Brazilian thrower Raíssa Rocha Machado with 24.22 meters.
Chinese athlete Sitong Lin won the bronze medal with 22.68 meters.
Held in East Asia for the first time and a crucial qualifier for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, the Kobe 2024 Para Athletics World Championships attracted over 1,000 athletes from 100 countries and regions to compete in 168 events.
The 2024 World Para Athletics Championships are organized by the World Para Athletics subcommittee of the International Paralympic Committee.
It’s the 11th edition of the event and are being held in the Kobe Universiade Memorial Stadium in Kobe, Japan, from May 17 to 25.
