Survey: 35% of Americans Say Israel Committing Genocide in Gaza
WASHINGTON (Dispatches) – Around 35 percent of Americans believe the Zionist regime is carrying out a genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, according to the latest Economist/YouGov poll.
The survey found that 36 percent of Americans do not support that view, and 29 percent remain undecided.
Almost half of Americans between the ages of 18-29, 49 percent, say the Zionist regime is engaged in genocide, while 24 percent disagree, and 27 percent remain undecided.
These trends are largely mirrored among registered Democrats, where 49 percent say that the occupying regime is committing genocide, 21 percent disagree, and 30 percent are undecided.
Voter support for U.S. military aid to the regime has also dropped amid the war in the Gaza Strip, according to a new poll from Quinnipiac University.
Support for additional military aid to Israel has also dropped among both Democratic and Republican voters, per the poll.
In November, 71 and 45 percent of Democratic and Republican voters said they were in favor of more military aid to Israel, respectively. In December, those numbers were down, with 65 percent of Republican voters and 36 percent of Democratic voters saying they supported more military aid to Israel.
Over 26,000 people have been killed in the besieged Gaza Strip since Israel began bombarding the enclave more than three months ago, according to Palestinian officials.
Israel has razed almost 40 percent of the 2,824 buildings in Gaza located within a kilometer of the fence with the occupied territories, according to a Hebrew University study cited by The Wall Street Journal.
According to the report much of the land that has now been turned into a military zone, was agricultural land.
This marks another deliberate attempt by Israel to fulfill its stated aim of making the Strip uninhabitable by preventing Palestinians from growing their own food.
The demolition moves appear to be part of a plan to build a kilometer-wide buffer zone inside the Strip.
The Israeli military appears to have demolished 1,072 out of 2,824 structures located one kilometer or less from the border. Most of the buildings were residential, according to the Hebrew University study.
