U.S. Military Base Comes Under Fresh Attack in Syria

DAMASCUS (Dispatches) – A military base in southeastern Syria near the border with Jordan and Iraq, where U.S. occupation troops and their allied militants are stationed, has come under attack by armed unmanned aerial vehicles.
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella group of anti-terror fighters, in a statement claimed responsibility for the Wednesday strike.
It noted that the al-Tanf base in Syria’s Homs province was targeted by two drones, and the designated targets were precisely struck and destroyed.
There were no immediate reports about possible casualties and the extent of damage caused.
Sabereen News, a Telegram news channel associated with Iraqi anti-terror Popular Mobilization Units, also reported the incident.
The strike comes amid rising anti-U.S. sentiment over Washington’s firm support for the Israeli onslaught against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip, which has killed at least 8,796 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured more than 23,000 others.
On Tuesday, two rockets struck the U.S. military installation at the Conoco gas field in Syria’s eastern province of Dayr al-Zawr.
Another explosion ripped through the al-Omar oil field in the same Syrian province shortly afterwards, as several rockets hit the vicinity of the U.S. base set up in the energy-rich region.
A total of 21 U.S. service members reported “minor injuries” as a result of drone and rocket attacks on American military bases in Iraq and Syria last week, according to the Pentagon.
“Between October 17 and 18, 21 U.S. personnel received minor injuries due to drone attacks at al-Asad Airbase, Iraq, and al-Tanf Garrison, Syria,” Pentagon spokesman Brigadier General Patrick Ryder said. “All members returned to duty.”
Meanwhile, the Russian Aerospace Forces conducted an airstrike on facilities controlled by illegal armed groups responsible for attacks on the Syrian military, according to Rear Adm. Vadim Kulit, the deputy chief of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Opposing Parties in Syria.
“Up to ten militants were killed in the strikes,” Rear Adm. Vadim Kulit stated, adding that the targets included “two underground hideouts and a warehouse with drone parts near the settlements of Inkzik and Kansafra.”
Kulit also reported that one Syrian serviceman was injured in a militant shelling incident that targeted Syrian military positions in the Abbad district. The shelling originated from areas controlled by militants near the settlement of Afes.
In a separate development, the Russian center documented 15 violations committed by aircraft from the U.S.-led coalition in the al-Tanf area of Syria in the past day. These violations were attributed to various fighter jets and unmanned aerial vehicles.
