Futile Zionist Bid to Drive a Wedge Between Baku and Tehran

By: Kayhan Int’l Staff Writer

At a time when most of the Muslim world has realized the folly of trusting the US, let alone forging ties with an archenemies of the Islamic Ummah, such as the illegal Zionist entity, a land in our immediate neighbourhood which for over two millenniums was an integral part of Iran and which was forcibly separated from the motherland through colonial designs, has set up unnatural ties with Israel and is trying to vilify the Islamic Republic.
The people of the Caucasus republic of Azerbaijan, like the rest of the Iranian people, are Muslims mostly following the school of the Ahl al-Bayt of Prophet Muhammad (SAWA) and sharing the same history, culture, and mindset with their Persian and other brethren.
They played a crucial part in the establishment of the Safavid dynasty that gave religious, cultural, and national identity to all of Iran including the Caucasus region.
Despite being detached some two centuries ago from Iran due to the treasonous treaties of Turkmanchai and Golestan signed by the weak Qajarid rulers with Czarist Russia because of British deception, they have continued to look towards Iran and the rest of the Iranian people for inspiration that was the least dampened even during the seventy years of socialist communist godless suppression.
It is also worth noting that the people of the republic of Azerbaijan had enthusiastically welcomed the liberation of Iran from the British-installed Pahlavi regime by Imam Khomeini (RA) whom they had hailed, along with the rest of the Iranian people, as the Father of the Islamic Revolution.
Naturally, these fraternal feelings, especially after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the freedom to travel to Iran for pilgrimage to the holy shrines for the people of the republic of Azerbaijan, did not go well with US imperialism and Zionism, as well as with the chauvinistic lingual tendencies of some divisive forces in the region.
The result is the current wave of unwarranted hostility by some elements in Baku which have blundered in establishing diplomatic ties with the illegal Zionist entity and in accordance with the dictates of the Israelis, are trying in vain to disrupt the brotherly ties with the rest of the Iranian people.
The Islamic Republic, however, in the words of its Foreign Ministry Spokesman, “sticks to the policy of good neighborliness within the framework of mutual respect, and our policy is still visa waiver and open arms to our Azeri brothers and sisters.”
Nasser Kan’ani expressed surprise at the recent travel advisory of the republic of Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry to its citizens against traveling to Iran, calling it insinuation from the fake, child-killing, and occupying Zionist regime.
He said what the Azeri people should be afraid of is the “Zionist regime” and not the civilized Islamic Republic of Iran.
This is only a temporary phase and soon it will be over, thanks to the sagacious policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran to foster Islamic solidarity and bring all the Muslim lands on the platform of unity, which Insha Allah (God Willing) will triump in the eradication of the Zionist entity from Palestine.
