Iran Determined to Ditch U.S. Dollar in Bilateral Transactions With Russia

TEHRAN – Iran’s First Vice President Muhammad Mokhber on Wednesday said that the country is seriously determined to sideline the U.S. dollar in mutual transactions with the Russian Federation.
He made the remarks in Tehran in his meeting with the governor of the Central Bank of Russia on the sidelines of the 51st Asian Clearing Union (ACU) meeting, adding that Iran has prioritized removing dollar transactions first with Russia.
The two sides have held expert-level talks in this respect, Mokhber stated.
Earlier this morning, on the sidelines of a Cabinet meeting, Mokhber pointed to the removal of the U.S. dollar from transactions between Iran and other countries, saying, “Giant work is happening in the field of sidelining the U.S. dollar in transactions among countries.”
“De-dollarization” and reducing the dependency of countries on major currencies including the U.S. dollar are among the main topics discussed at the 51st edition of the ACU meeting.
