Leader Calls for Revival of Islamic-Iranian Identity

TEHRAN – Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Tuesday called on Iranian teachers to promote the Iranian and Islamic identity among children.
In an address to a group of teachers and academics on the occasion of the National Teachers’ Day, the Leader said reviving the feeling of “Iranian-Islamic identity and national personality” in the intelligent youths of the country is a “fundamental” duty.
Ayatollah Khamenei said strengthening the Iranian identity and teaching the Islamic-Iranian way of life are among the main things required in the country’s education system.
All Iranian officials and decision-makers and people from all walks of life must understand the significance of education, he said.
“The value and importance of raising a generation that is knowledgeable, well-informed, intellectual and logical, pious, full of determination and possessors of Islamic ethics and national commitments, to build the future of the country, cannot be compared to anything else,” the Leader said.
Ayatollah Khamenei called on the authorities to make a revision in the current path of education and evaluate its productivity for the country.
“The main policy of education should be based on teaching useful science and meeting the current and future needs of the country,” the Leader stated.
The Leader criticized the country’s ministry of education for its unstable management of affairs.
“A large organization like this will be harmed by the way it is continuously changing ministers, especially because such a change sometimes results in the change of deputies, middle managers, and even school principals.”
Ayatollah Khamenei underlined the need to adapt the structure, content, and education curriculum to the needs of the country adding that the country needs skilled workers as much as it needs scholars and scientists.
The Leader said teachers and academics are educators of the precious jewel of the “teenage and young generation” and the future architects of the country.
“Our dear teachers should raise the children of this nation in the same manner that they wish their own children to be raised as happy, proud, wise, educated individuals who display respectable behavior. This important matter will be realized not only through teaching, but also through the behavior and actions of teachers.”
Ayatollah Khamenei said it is not possible to make progress without the assistance of the education

system. The Leader also praised the country’s teachers for their efforts in educating children despite difficulties.
The National Teachers Day in Iran marks the martyrdom anniversary of Ayatollah Morteza Motahhari, who was martyred by Forqan Group soon after the victory of the Islamic Revolution.
The Leader honored the memory of Ayatollah Motahhari as a person who was the epitome of a “true and perfect teacher,” advising teachers to make use of his works.
