Director to Make New Series on Holy Defense

TEHRAN -- Iranian director Muhammad-Hussein Latifi has announced that he will make a new series on the 1980-88 Iraq’s imposed war on Iran.
Latifi said in an interview that he has been working on making a 40-episode series on Iran’s southwestern city of Khorramshahr, which fell into the hands of foreign-backed forces of Iraq’s former dictator Saddam Hussein during the war, for a month.
The city was later liberated during a large-scale operation.
Latifi noted that the series will revolve around the resistance of the people of Khorramshahr and the grief and suffering of Iranian people in the early days of the war, also known as the eight years of Sacred Defense.
Making such as series “has been one of my wishes”, he said.
Iraq invaded Iran and conducted airstrikes on a number of airbases in the Islamic Republic on September 22, 1980.
The war, which began 19 months after the victory of Iran’s Islamic Revolution, ended on August 20, 1988.
Latifi said that he has made works on the Sacred Defense for about 16 years.
The prominent director has made many series and movies, including ‘The Spiritualists’, ‘Heart of Ice’, ‘Chimney’, ‘Leila’s Loneliness’, ‘Speed’, ‘Sunglasses’, and ‘The Third Day’.
