Bayangan Rocks to Beating of Daf

TEHRAN – The ensemble of musicians in the city of Bayangan in the western Iranian province of Kermanshah has played daf.
Bayangan has a reputation for local songs and mystic music of Khanqah. Various musical instruments have been used in the production of their music that has always attracted the attention of tourists, iFilm reported.
The daf, also known as Dayere and Riq, is one of the used instruments. It is a frame drum musical instrument, used in Iran, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, many regions of Georgia, Pakistan as well as in parts of India and polar regions in Russia.
It traditionally has a round wooden frame, jingles, and a thin, translucent head made of fish or goat skin. The sound is produced by hitting the membrane with either hand – the left hand, which also holds the daf, strikes the edges, and the right hand strikes the center.
