Syria’s Air Defenses Intercept Zionist Missile Attack
DAMASCUS (Dispatches) – Syrian air defenses intercepted a fresh missile attack by the Zionist regime in the central province of Homs in the early hours of Saturday, state news agency SANA reported.
The air defenses were responding to hostile targets in the skies of Homs, said the report, spelling out no further details.
Three civilians were injured in the attack, according to the Syrian Defense Ministry.
Citing a military source, Syria’s official SANA news agency reported on Saturday that the Zionist regime’s warplanes fired several missiles from the direction of northern Lebanon at areas in the vicinity of Homs at around 00:50 a.m. local time earlier in the day (2150 GMT Friday), noting that most of the projectiles were intercepted and destroyed before striking their intended targets.
The source was further cited as adding that following an inspection of the targeted area by the Syrian military it was discovered that the three civilians had sustained injuries as the result of the attack.
According to the report, the air raids also caused some material damage, setting on fire a civilian fuel station along with a number of fuel tankers and trucks.
Another report by Syria’s popular Sham FM radio station further said fires had erupted in the southern outskirts of Homs as a result of the strikes and “successive explosions sounded from the area.”
Back on April 24, the Zionist regime’s military forces also launched a volley of 12 artillery shells at an area east of Syria’s Hader village, which lies in the Khan Arnabah sub-district of southwestern province of Quneitra near the border with the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
Syria has been gripped by a massive foreign-backed terrorist campaign since March 2011 in a failed bid to overthrow the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Damascus has persistently attributed the terror campaign – entirely carried out by the ruthless terrorist groups -- to the U.S.-sponsored Zionist regime and its Western and regional allies that supplied them with weaponry and logistics.
Although most of Syria has been cleared of the foreign-backed terror groups, small pockets of them still remain in the country – largely supplied and aided by occupying U.S. military forces as well as Turkey.
Syria’s permanent representative to the UN, Bassam Sabbagh, accused the occupying regime of coordinating with Daesh and prolonging the crisis in Syria.
Sabbagh said that the regime is escalating attacks on Syrian territory, adding that it coincides with Daesh’s aggressors, which shows the similarities between their terrorism and coordination.
Sabbagh made these remarks during a session of the UN Security Council on humanitarian and political issues in Syria.
He stated that the regime’s continued attacks on Syrian lands have targeted residential buildings, civilian airports, and infrastructure, killing civilians.
Sabbagh renewed Syria’s call for the UN to condemn any violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
