Iran Freestyle Team Comes Third in Asia

TEHRAN – Iran’s freestyle team has slipped to a surprising third in the 2023 Asian Wrestling Championships.
Team Melli came third with 124 points, just four points ahead of Mongolia on Friday.
Combined with its two golds from Thursday, Kazakhstan easily secured the team title with 179 and Japan finished second at 129.
Iran won one gold, one silver and three bronze medals in the competition, held in Astana, Kazakhstan from April 9 to 14.
Rahman Amouzad claimed a gold in 65kg, while Alireza Karimi won a silver in 86kg.
Amir Hossein Kavousi at 79kg, Mojtaba Goleij at 97kg and Yasin Rezaei at 61kg bagged three bronzes.
The six-day event determined the seeds for the World Championships to be held in mid-September in Serbia. The World Championships, consequently, will serve as the qualifying event for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
